“The company could not have pulled off the successful selection of the third party logistics provider had it not been for Scott’s industry experience and the selection process he designed and implemented.”

VP, Operations, PE Portfolio CPG Company

SITUATION

After a recent merger involving a private equity firm, a leading consumer goods organization saw an opportunity to reduce freight costs and improve customer service through reworking its distribution process.

The organization had initiated an internal network rationalization project. However, this program had become stagnant as the organization struggled to find a resource capable of effectively managing the project.

The organization sought a subject matter expert that could not only provide the strategic advice required to redesign its distribution process, but also possessed the hands-on project management expertise needed to guide this strategic project to a successful outcome.

SOLUTION

The client selected OnDemand Partner Scott to lead the strategic review and delivery of an improved distribution network. Scott developed and executed a Project Charter that saw the existing, underperforming team split into a ‘project team’ and a ‘steering committee’ and was influential in securing the EVP of Operations as project sponsor.

Within a short time, the project was once again on track and all team members were working towards a shared goal. In addition to managing the team, Scott provided vital financial analysis and advice that acted as the catalyst in the organization’s decision to outsource its distribution network and focus solely on its core competencies.

Once the decision to outsource was reached, Scott was tasked with leading the organization through an RFP and selection process for the third party logistics provider. This transition was not only managed without disruption to the business, but delivered significant cost savings and process improvements.

RESULTS

By engaging an experienced OnDemand partner, our client was able to rejuvenate a stalled program of work. Scott delivered prudent financial analysis and advice that empowered the organization to reach a consensus on outsourcing its distribution network with immediate saving of $500,000. Scott was directly responsible for successfully guiding and managing the project team throughout this process and achieved the client’s goal of reducing freight costs and improving customer service.
